Drawing is
a vital part of my creative process. I do not produce engineering
schematics or even plans for a specific sculpture. I draw to explore ideas, to
see themes emerge spontaneously. Drawing lets me make notes as ideas evolve and
helps me learn new anatomy. The joy of working quickly, and in color, provides a
pleasant counterpoint to the labor intensive process of welding steel. Most
drawings are done with the aid of a digital computer tablet, sometimes enhancing
a scanned line drawing. I also draw in charcoal and pastel or acrylic paint on
